Dispatcher vs Mux

Mux is Coder's open-source multiplexer for running several agent workspaces side by side, locally, in git worktrees, or on remote machines over SSH, with its own provider-agnostic agent. Dispatcher instead drives the agent CLIs you already use, such as Claude Code, Codex, and Cursor, and adds intake, a board, a knowledge base, and stacked PRs.

Last reviewed October 14, 2026 from Mux's public site and docs.

At a glance

Choose Dispatcher if

  • You want to keep using Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, and other agent CLIs as they are
  • You want Slack, GitHub, and Linear intake and a shared board
  • You ship large changes as stacked PRs

Choose Mux if

  • You run on Coder workspaces or need agents on remote machines
  • You want one agent that can switch between many model providers

Key differences

Whose agent

Mux ships its own agent that talks to many model providers. Dispatcher orchestrates the agent CLIs you already use, with their own logins, plans, and behavior.

Remote work

Mux can run workspaces over SSH and fits Coder's governed environments. Dispatcher runs agents on your machine, in your repository.

Questions

Is Dispatcher a Mux alternative?
Yes, for teams that want to run their existing agent CLIs in parallel worktrees with intake, review, and stacked PRs. Mux is the better fit for Coder environments and remote SSH workspaces.
