Dispatcher vs Traycer

Traycer is a planning layer, not an orchestrator: inside VS Code and its forks it turns a request into specs, phases, and tickets, hands them to an agent such as Cursor or Claude Code, and verifies the result. Dispatcher is a standalone desktop app that runs many agents in parallel worktrees and owns the loop from intake to pull request. The two can work together.

At a glance

Choose Dispatcher if

  • You want several agents working at once, each isolated in its own worktree
  • You want one app from Slack or GitHub request to pull request
  • Your team works across editors, not only VS Code

Choose Traycer if

  • You work in VS Code or Cursor and want structured specs before an agent writes code
  • You want a plan verified phase by phase as one agent executes it

Key differences

Planning layer or orchestrator

Traycer improves what one agent is told and checks what it did. Dispatcher runs many agents at once, isolates them, and handles intake, review, and shipping.

Using both

A Traycer spec can become a Dispatcher task description: Dispatcher treats the task as the prompt and syncs linked docs into the worktree.

Questions

Is Dispatcher a Traycer alternative?
They overlap on planning and review but solve different problems. Traycer structures plans inside VS Code; Dispatcher runs and manages many agents in parallel worktrees. Many teams could use both.
